STORIA

I Fattore Zeta nascono ad aprile del 2004 ad opera del batterista Jacopo Giusti, da anni profondo conoscitore della musica di Frank Zappa e desideroso di creare un progetto duraturo e appassionato. A questo punto coinvolge Davide Matteucci, diplomato oboista al conservatorio di Livorno, ma da anni sassofonista (soprano e contralto), Federico Pistelli al sax tenore, grande performer di ventennale esperienza tra il jazz e il funky. Dopo aver trovato altri due musicisti, iniziano i primi concerti in tutta la Toscana. Nel dicembre del 2006 esce il loro primo disco ufficiale dal titolo "®umori Jazz - a tribute to the music of Frank Zappa" che riscuote un discreto successo tra gli appassionati e non solo. Seguono di li a poco due importanti successi dal vivo, uno a Mestre, per la presentazione ufficiale del disco, alla Sala Parnaso dell'Hotel Bologna. Lo musica e il sound dei Fattore Zeta è in bilico tra il jazz e il funky con l'intera rivisitazione personale del repertorio zappiano. Nel 2007 si unisce saltuariamente alla formazione anche Andrea Iacoponi, attore teatrale da diversi anni che in alcuni momenti dello spettacolo, interviene recitando alcuni testi e suonando improbabili strumenti musicali. Poi nell’agosto del 2008 il concerto allo storico festival tedesco Zappanale, viene accolto molto positivamente da critica e pubblico e da a breve ne scaturisce un disco interamente dal vivo dal titolo “Dio Fa Live in Zappanale 19”. Subito dopo la serata tedesca la formazione cambia e si stabilisce nell’attuale organico composto da Stefano Silvestri al basso, profondo conoscitore di Zappa, Nicol Franza alla chitarra, con un vasto curriculum anche come tecnico del suono ed infine il maestro Massimiliano Fantolini al piano, musicista diplomato al conservatorio di Livorno e studioso di jazz.

 

HISTORY

 

The Fattore Zetar are to the April 2004 by drummer Jacopo Giusti, for years a deep knowledge of the music of Frank Zappa and eager to create a project lasting and passionate. At this point involves Davide Matteucci, graduated from the conservatory oboist of Livorno, but for years saxophone (soprano and contralto), Federico Pistelli on tenor sax, great performer for over twenty years experience in jazz and funky. After finding two musicians begin their first concerts in all of Tuscany. In December 2006 they released their first official disc, entitled "Rumori Jazz Jazz - A Tribute To The Music Of Frank Zappa" which became a moderate success among fans and beyond. Followed a little later two important successes live, one in Mestre, the official presentation of the disc, the Hall Parnasos  Hotel Bologna. The music and the sound of Factor Zeta is poised between the jazz and funk with the entire staff of revisiting Zappa repertoire. In 2007, the training also occasionally joins Andrea Iacoponi, theater actor for many years that in some moments of the show, spoke reciting some texts and playing musical instruments improbable. Then in August 2008 concert at the historic German festival Zappanale, is received very positively by critics and audiences and short, we have a full live disc entitled 'Dio Fa - Live in Zappanale 19 ". 18 maggio: Vengono suonati per la prima volta in una versione molto acustica i primi due pezzi che sono Son Of Mr.Green Genes e una versione molto jazz di uno standard di Oliver Nelson che già Zappa ha utilizzato nella sua ultima tournè del 1988, cioè Stolen Moments.

14 marzo: Viene accennata una versione jazz di un solo di chitarra di Zappa che è presente nell'album Shut up 'n play yer guitar e che si tratta di Tracherous Cretins. L'idea è quella di riproporlo come pezzo vero e proprio.

3 giugno: Prima seduta di registrazione. Dopo aver effettuato le prove del suono, in mattinata viene registrata Toads Of The Short Forest. Nel pomeriggio viene registrata Little Umbrellas, a seguire Peaches En Regalia e buona alla prima Son Of Mr. Green Genes.

4 giugno: La mattina seguente con inizio alle ore 10 iniziano le riprese di Blessed Relief nella versione definitiva (cioè con l'inserimento anche del tema di Footprints di W.Shorter), poi Sofa #2, che non viene alla prima, ma è forse il pezzo più difficoltoso ad incidere. A seguire Holiday In Berlin inciso in due sedute. Poi A Pound For A Brown anch'essa provata tre volte. Oh No, invece a parte qualche ritocco di basso, è buona alla prima. Per Big Swifty c'è invece da preparare una serie di metronomi in quanto il pezzo oltre le complicate metriche, ci sono anche alcuni arrangiamenti nostri. Risulterà alla fine l'unica traccia suonata a più riprese. Alle fine della giornata ci raggiunge in studio Massimiliano Nocelli al violino per la registrazione piano/violino di Sleep Dirt. Risulterà però alla fine una registrazione sprecisa, per cui verrà abbandonata.

5 giugno: Iniziamo la mattina con la registrazione della prima parte di Planet Of My Dreams, per poi fare buona alla prima una difficile versione di Let's Move To Cleveland con uno strepitoso Federico Pistelli al sax tenore. Finiamo le sessioni con l'ultimo pezzo rimasto, cioè Twenty Small Cigars, per poi proseguire nel pomeriggio con la seconda parte di Planet Of My Dreams. Questa infatti non è altro che una nostra versione di Emper Of Ohio, cioè a sua volta una improvvisazione che Zappa utilizzava per un solo di batteria con un sottofondo di voci estratte da un film porno. Il tutto andrà poi collegato in fase di missaggio. E' il turno poi di Andrea Iacoponi che recita con una passione davvero inaspettata Terapia di Gruppo, parodia di Gurdjieff, filosofo russo vissuto a cavallo del 900. La nostra non è altro che una versione ironica di suo testo, una nostra rilettura "filosofica" (ed anche molto zappiana) sul senso della vita, della musica e dell'essere in genere, che a nostro modo insegna a non prendersi troppo sul serio. Finiamo poi l'ultimo giorni di registrazione con le sovraincisioni di percussioni varie (gong, campanacci e shaker).

18 gennaio: concerto al Border Line di Pisa con la partecipazione straordinaria in America Drinks & Goes Home, Serenade To A Cockoo e King Kong di Paolo Falanga al sax contralto, Marco Cosimi alla tromba e Massimo Puccio al sax tenore. Infine sempre su King Kong  è intervenuto nel concerto Simone Coloretti alla chitarra. Il tutto è stato registrato in digitale da Alessandro Bufalini per la realizzazione di un promo live dal titolo "Fattore Zeta Live in Border Line Pisa".

10 gennaio: dopo 4 mesi di prove però si interrompe la collaborazione con Stefano Masoni. Il lavoro per la stesura degli arrangiamenti a tre fiati sarebbe stato un lavoro troppo lungo e dispendioso.
